ETP Commended for Saving Benue Terror Attack Victim

Equipping the Persecuted (ETP), a US-based humanitarian organisation, has been commended for its swift intervention in securing life-saving medical treatment for a victim of a recent terror attack in Efeyi-Utikpi, Ugboju, Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State.

The victim, identified as Sunday Owoicho, was reportedly shot in the head during the attack and sustained serious brain injuries that affected his speech and required specialised medical attention.

Owoicho’s wife, Josephine Owoicho, expressed appreciation to ETP for taking responsibility for her husband’s medical expenses, saying the organisation funded his treatment from the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), Makurdi, to the National Hospital, Abuja.

According to her, the financial intervention enabled her husband to continue receiving the specialised treatment he urgently needed.

She said without the timely assistance, the family would have faced significant difficulties in sustaining his treatment.

Another family member, Emmanuel Akade, also thanked ETP for its intervention, particularly its Media Relations Officer, Barrister Franc Utoo, and the organisation’s Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Judd Saul.

Akade said their efforts helped facilitate the medical intervention that saved his brother’s life and provided assistance to other vulnerable victims affected by violence in the community.

Speaking on the intervention, Andy Nomsoor, ETP’s representative in Benue State, said Owoicho sustained a gunshot wound to the head during the attack.

Nomsoor explained that the injury resulted in brain damage and severely affected the victim’s ability to speak.

He said ETP responded promptly after learning about the victim’s condition and provided the necessary support to enable him to access appropriate medical care.

The intervention, he added, underscores the importance of timely humanitarian assistance to victims of violent attacks, particularly those requiring specialised medical treatment beyond the immediate capacity of their families.
