EU releases £35 million to address 417,661 out of schools children in Jigawa, Kano, Sokoto

The European Union (EU) funded project known as Accelerating Basic Education and Livelihood Opportunities for Children and Youth in North-Western Nigeria, is to address 417,661 out of schools children challenges in three northern states of Jigawa, Kano and Sokoto.
This was announced by the EU consortium lead/education adviser PLAN Nigeria,Tobi Ransomed while delivering her speech at the projects start-up workshop held on Wednesday in Dutse.
She explained that, the project with duration for three years will be implemented through Save the Children International (SCI), PLAN International and DAG in 12 local government areas.
According to her, the project will ensure that the targeted number of children are able to read and write.
She added that over 12 million people are expected to benefit from the project indirectly.
The consortium lead maintained that, after the project, 60,000 children out of total 417,661 benefitting children will be supported and empowered with livelihood while some of them will be awarded with scholarship to continue their studies.
Also speaking, the program manager/deputy consortium lead EU Vandi Hyelladi called on the stakeholders including parents, traditional and religious leaders, government, community organisations and media to cooperate and support the project and achieve the desired goals of reducing the number of out of schools children in the states.
