President Bola Tinubu on Thursday assured Nigerians that the benefits of his administration’s economic reforms would soon be felt across the country, insisting that the policies are designed to lay the foundation for long-term prosperity and national development.
Speaking at the inauguration of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement in Abuja, Tinubu, represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, said his administration chose the path of “courage and conviction” by implementing reforms aimed at repositioning the country.
Since assuming office on May 29, 2023, the administration has introduced a series of economic reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidy and the unification of the foreign exchange market, measures the government says are necessary to revive the economy and improve citizens’ welfare.
Tinubu acknowledged the initial hardships caused by the reforms but maintained that they would ultimately deliver lasting benefits.
“Reform is not an event but a journey. The purpose of reform is not to make life difficult for the people but to lay the foundation upon which future generations can build lives of greater dignity, prosperity, opportunities and lasting progress,” he said.
He stressed that enduring progress often requires temporary sacrifices and urged Nigerians to remain patient with the government’s policies.
The President further said all arms of government were working together to ensure that citizens reap the benefits of the reforms.
“Good governance succeeds when the executive, the legislature and the Nigerian people move forward together. We are working together to ensure that every Nigerian feels the impact of our reforms,” he stated.
Tinubu also called for national unity, saying Nigeria’s interests must transcend political divisions.
“Elections may produce winners and losers, but Nigeria must always emerge the ultimate victor. Our nation is greater than any political party, any officeholder or any election,” he said.
Addressing members of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement, the President urged them to promote democratic engagement, respect and national cohesion in their interactions with citizens.
“When politics is conducted with patriotism and service, every door opened becomes another gateway to national renewal and renewed hope for a greater and more prosperous Nigeria,” he added.
