Gov. Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau, has described the former Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), retired Gen. Christopher Musa, as a professional soldier who led from the front and served the nation with empathy and integrity.
Mutfwang made the remark at a grand reception organised by members of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) Course 38 in honour of Gen. Musa and his wife, on Friday night in Abuja.
He lauded the former CDS for his leadership style and deep sense of duty, saying Musa embodied the qualities of a true officer and patriot.
“As Chief of Defence Staff, I found in him a thoroughbred professional soldier, a leader of men, a manager of resources, and a man of great empathy, not only for his officers and men, but also for the people whose lives they swore to protect,” he said.
The governor added that the former defence chief was known for always leading from the front, maintaining strong civil-military relations, and demonstrating loyalty to the Commander-in-Chief.
According to him, Musa was a man of great integrity, great intelligence, and a military strategist to the core, whose tenure as CDS added immense value to Nigeria’s security architecture.
Mutfwang said Gen. Musa’s leadership inspired his subordinates, ensured prudent use of resources, and reinforced accountability and professionalism in the Armed Forces.
“He brought integrity, honesty, and commitment to bear in the discharge of his duties, ensuring that officers and men gave their best in service to the nation,” he said.
Also, the Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Idris Gobir, said the state was proud to identify with Gen. Musa, who he said was a son of the caliphate who was born and brought up in the state.
Gobir said the Sokoto people were proud to identify with the former defence chief who never disappointed Nigeria during his service to the nation in the armed forces.
He expressed belief that the Ex-defence Chief still had a lot to offer to the nation in its quest for peace, stability and development.
On his part, the Comptroller-General, Nigeria Customs Service, Mr Bashir Adeniyi, said the event brought to the fore that people take accurate note of your stewardship while in service until retirement day.
Adeniyi said that Gen. Musa had remained loyal and committed to the course of Nigeria even in retirement, adding that he had continued to show that he loves Nigeria, and has passion for serving Nigeria.
“I still believe that even in his retirement, he will still continue to demonstrate this passion and commitment towards Project Nigeria.
“So I wish him well. I wish him a happy retirement and to young officers, they should see that hard work, commitment, personal discipline, and above all, good character has its rewards.
“We have seen it in General Chris Musa and perhaps some other very senior officers before him.
“These are values and virtues that they must learn to emulate,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event was attended by the serving and former service chiefs, dignitaries from within and outside Nigeria among others.
