From Uche Nnorom, Makurdi
Former Nigerian Ambassador to Namibia, Terhemen Tarzoor has dismissed as ‘untrue’ allegations that primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the State are marred by widespread irregularities, insisting that it was free, fair and in line with the electoral act and the party regulations.
Tarzoor, who is a Renewed Hope Ambassador for President Bola Tinubu 2027 in Benue State, argued that political actors often describe elections differently depending on how the outcome favours them.
Tarzoor said this while speaking with the newsmen in Makurdi, maintainted that the exercise is peaceful and well coordinated.
He noted that materials for the just concluded APC Presidential election were distributed at the party secretariat and forwarded to various local governments and ward headquarters across the state and monitored by Governor Hyacinth Alia, who is the returning officer for the presidential primaries election in the state .
Tarzoor said “The governor was there to ensure that all the local governments received materials for onward distribution. People were out in large numbers to vote for Mr. President, and so far, the process has been successful.
“And at all polling ward headquarters, materials were there. People were all out to vote for Mr. President. Of course, there are two candidates in the race. And so far, so good. My principal, the head of the Renewed Hope Ambassador, is leading, overwhelmingly.
He expressed confidence that the APC in Benue was “100 percent glued” and united behind Governor Alia’s leadership.
He said: “All APC members in Benue State have accepted and queued behind their leader, Governor Hyacinth Alia.
“There is no doubt about his leadership prowess, and the party is speaking with one voice that Bola Tinubu will return to continue the work he is doing for Nigeria.
“Irregularities are relative in politics. When it favours you, there are no irregularities, but when it doesn’t, people complain.
“ No system is absolutely perfect, but to my personal assessment, the primaries were free and fair and conducted without rancour or loss of lives.”
He also described the level of mobilization for the exercise as “awesome,” noting that participation at his location reflected strong support for the president and the APC in the state.
