A former presidential aide Bashir Ahmad has suggested that the vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, may need to reassess his future in the party following recent controversies over candidate substitutions in Kano State.
The controversy erupted after some candidates earlier submitted by the Kwankwasiyya faction were reportedly replaced by the NDC leadership, a move that has fueled discontent among the former governor’s supporters.
Reacting to the development in a post on his verified X account on Monday, Ahmad argued that remaining in a political party where one feels sidelined may not serve one’s political interests.
According to him, if Kwankwaso genuinely believes he has been unfairly treated by the party’s national leadership, he should consider seeking an alternative platform that better accommodates his political ambitions.
Ahmad maintained that pursuing his aspirations through a platform aligned with his goals would be preferable to staying in an environment where he feels restricted or marginalized.
The remarks come amid growing tensions within the NDC over internal party decisions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
