Former member of the House of Representatives from Kano State, Hon Farouk Lawan has served out his term at Kuje prison, in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

Lawan, who was for a long term the Chairman, Education Committee of the lower arm of the National Assembly, ran into trouble by demanding and collecting bribe from oil magnate and billionaire, Mr Femi Otedola, during the House Committee’s probe into fuel subsidy scam.

At the end of his trial in court, Lawan was sentenced to a prison term.

However, the former representative of Shanono/Bagwai federal constituency of Kano State in the House of Representatives, in a press statement on Tuesday, announced to the world that he had been released.

The statement entitled, ‘Alhamdulillah, Alhamdulillah Alhamdulillah’, reads, “Today marks the beginning of a new chapter in my life as I step out of Kuje Custodian Centre, with a heart full of gratitude to Allah, SWT, for seeing me through this trial.

“My gratitude is deep, I’m alive and in good health and high spirits to be with my family, friends and associates. I don’t take that for granted”.
