A former Senate President Ameh Ebute has singled out President Muhammadu Buhari as the only President in Nigeria’s history that has arrested and prosecuted corrupt officials.
Ebute, a Senate President under Earnest Shonekan, stated this yesterday in Abuja during the unveiling of the Good Governance Ambassadors of Nigeria (GOGAN).
He said “Buhari stands out n Africa as a president who does not condone cases of corruption.
“Corruption has psychological killed many Nigerians. Governors in many states have not been able to pay salaries and their people are left to suffer the consequences every day. People lack money for food and medical bills, because of the attitude of corrupt officials. We are happy that this administration is working assiduously to put an end to corrupt practices.
“I thank the president for giving Nigeria a good name and for arresting people who have stolen so much from this country.”
He added that the corrupt practices of many has also affected the image of the country abroad, “leading to inhuman treatment of our people outside Nigeria. We must do all it takes to ensure that corrupt people do not return.”
While condemning the killings across the country, the former Senate President said looters were the major people sponsoring gunmen to kill people.
Ebute further expressed worry that the country has no political ideology, “but only share of national cake. I support 2 party system to help chat a way forward for our democracy. This is because self-serving politicians are working for their own interest.
I also call on INEC not to qualify people with foreign accounts they should publish the names of such people in National dailies with a view to qualify or disqualify them. These are the people who steal our money and ship it abroad. If they will be stopped from contesting, then our money will not be moved abroad.”
He called on GOGAN to ensure that those in authority comply strictly to rule of law and respect for human rights.
On his part, Nollywood actor, Kenneth okonkwo, said Buhari has done more on rail way and deserves a second time.
He said there is no better person than Buhari at this time to lead the country.
He said the organization will work towards ensuring good governance in the country.
