A former Vice-chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, Prof. Kelsey Harrison has charged Nigerian medical doctors to always remain committed to their duties in order to save lives
He gave the charge in an interview with newsmen during a public lecture organised by the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, University of Abuja Teaching Hospital (UATH) which took place at Post Basic Intensive Care Nursing School Auditorium on Monday.
Harrison also urged the government of the day to give priority attention to education of women for the sake of development.
His words: “The overriding lesson that I really want to leave behind is that the most important tool for development is education of women. And that if I had my way education should be organised in a such way that everybody goes to school up to the secondary schools level”.
While delivering the department’s lecture entitled still Dreaming of a Better Maternal Heath”, a Emeritus Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, however, said the high maternal mortality was still a scourge in Nigeria despite the efforts made to tame it.
On his part, the Chief Medical Director of UATH, Prof. Bisallah Ekele, advised Gynecologists to make use of the Knowledge they had acquired during the public lecture to better the society.
