A former chairman of Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State, Alhaji Sharu Anka, has defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing internal crises and alleged injustice within the ruling party.
Anka announced his resignation in a letter on Tuesday, accusing the APC leadership of denying members equal opportunities and failing to address divisions within the party.
He said the prevailing atmosphere of injustice and disunity had made it difficult for him to remain in the party.
“Let me formally announce that I was forced to leave the APC by the high rate of injustice, denials of equal opportunity and indisputable lack of unity and understanding, especially in the system of running the affairs of the party,” he stated.
The former council chairman also accused some party leaders of disregarding members’ contributions while allowing a few individuals to dominate the party’s affairs.
“There is total neglect and failure to recognise contributions given by the party members, and some cliques in the APC have turned the party into an unbearable style of family and friends’ affairs,” he added.
Anka further disclosed that his political supporters across Zamfara State had also moved with him to the ADC.
A seasoned grassroots politician, Anka served two terms as chairman of Anka Local Government Area.
He also served as a commissioner on four occasions, overseeing different ministries under successive administrations in Zamfara State.
