The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) said it is improving security process across the 22 airports under the control of the agency with the installation of safety and security equipment.
FAAN Managing Director, Sale Dunoma said the agency provided an effective platform that led to the successful fight against Ebola in Nigeria through its coordinating screening processes.
Dunoma spoke at the Airports Council International (ACI) Africa Regional Assembly hosted by Airport Company South Africa (ACSA) in Durban where he showcased the transformational strides in airport
operations with the simultaneous remodeling of 22 airports across Nigeria.
Director-General of ACI worldwide, Angela Gittens urges airports to build brand loyalty and provide a service that differentiated from others to attract air travellers.
She said passengers can forgive almost anything at an airport as long as they feel safe and it is clean as well like the ambiance, saying it evoke a good feeling when they walk into a terminal and get a sense of
order and security.
In his welcome address, President of ACI, Pascal Komla said the theme “Service Excellence” provided a unique opportunity for airport and aviation executives, experts and exhibitors from across the globe to
network, share information and forge a common vision for the future of the African airport business.
Secretary General of ACI Africa, Ali Tounsi said there were large discrepancies across the continent with some very high and low levels of services and standards, partly attributed to different cultures,
languages and geographical dimensions.
“A big challenge also is the issue of safety with the African continent having the worst safety ranking in the world, with so much happening economically in Africa, in the next few years, airports
would play a hugely important role and had to have priority attention” Tounsi told the delegates.
FAAN’s Director of Human Resources, Hajia Salamatu Umar Eluma Chief of Staff to the MD, Kabir Mohammed, among others represented Nigeria at the annual conference.
