False video of terrorists attack: CP FCT orders arrest of originator
Police have commenced a full forensic audit of what it called a false video of terrorists attack in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), with a view to apprehend the originator of the video.
The viral video circulating online alleged that terrorists are advancing on Abuja, with gunshots “raining heavily”, a claim the FCT Police Command dismissed as false, misleading, and deliberately designed to incite panic and misinform members of the public.
In a statement issued by its spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, the command said contrary to the claims contained in the video and its accompanying narrative, there has been no record of such security breach anywhere in the FCT.
“Preliminary findings indicate that the gunshot sounds heard in the video were edited from an unrelateed source and superimposed on footage of an unidentified location showing buildings under construction, with no verifiable link to the Federal Capital Territory.
“The Commissioner of Police has ordered a detailed forensic investigation of the video’s digital trail to identify and apprehend its originator for possible prosecution under extant laws,” the statement added.
It cautioned content creators against the dissemination of falsehood to avoid causing fear, panic, and public disorder.
The command advised the public to ignore and refrain from sharing such false content as they are created to cause panic and satisfy the mischievous intentions of the content creators.
The statement assured that the command remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents.
