Counsel to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Festus Keyamo, has prayed for a Federal High Court in Ikoyi Lagos, presided over by Justice Rita Ofilli Ajumogobia, to give more time to enable the commission produce statement of accounts of former Minister for Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode.
The senior lawyer told the court that the bank has promised to provide the required statement within a week.
According to the EFCC lawyer, the bank details to be tendered are for the period of 2004 to 2008.
It would be recalled that the anti-graft agency had re-arraigned the former minister on a 40-counts charge bordering on money laundering to the tune of N100 million which he pleaded not guilty.
According to the charge, the former minister was alleged to have transacted with funds exceeding N500, 000 without going through a financial institution.
Fani-Kayode was also alleged to have accepted cash payments to the tune of N100 million, while he held sway as Minister of Aviation and Minister of Culture and Tourism respectively.
However, counsel to the defendant Akoni (SAN) immediately prayed the court to allow the former minister to continue with the previous bail granted sometime in December 2008 by the then trial judge, Justice Ramat Mohammed who was transferred out of Lagos.
In her ruling on the bail application, Justice Ajumogobia ordered that the former Aviation Minister should continue with the previous bail granted him by the court on the reason that he has been attending proceedings on the matter faithfully.
