The Civil Defense Officers Wives Association (CDOWA) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has empowered its members, widdiws and female officers with various skills.
They were trained on soap making, Dettol, cream and detergent .
The training which took place at FCT Command was meant to provide additional source of income for the beneficiaries.
Speaking at the event, the chairperson, Mrs. Bolanle Olayinka Odumosu, said the training is designed with a focus on equipping participants with relevant and income-generating skills that are applicable in present economy.
She said the initiative marked the first of its kind in the FCT Command, and it reflects a clear and practical step toward addressing the economic empowerment of its members and other female personnel of the Command.
According to her, the participants will not only be adequately equipped with the knowledge of making liquid soap, body creams, detergents and disinfectants, they will also go home with a starter pack of materials for making the items.
“As you all know, as wives of officers, we understand the challenges and sacrifices that come with this noble profession. Our spouses dedicate their lives to keeping us safe, often putting themselves in harm’s way. As their partners, we play a vital role in supporting them and our families.
“This training programme is a testament to our commitment to empowering ourselves and our families. By acquiring new skills, we can enhance our personal and professional growth, improve our economic stability, and contribute to the well-being of our communities.
“Participants will also be lectured on Navigating access to markets, branding, packaging, and funding opportunities for startup success.”
She expressed her gratitude to the National President of the Civil Defence Officers Wives Association (CDOWA), Hajia Aishat Audi, for her support to the FCT Chapter.
“Her continuous guidance has given credibility and strength to the efforts of our chapter in the FCT.
“I owe a lot to my darling husband, Commandant Olusola Odumosu, the trailblazer, the pacesetting Commandant of the NSCDC FCT Command.”
Mrs Odumosu, however, called on the participants to approach it with an open mind, a willing heart, and the determination to turn these skills into success stories.
“This is your time to learn, to create, and to build something meaningful for yourselves, your families, and your communities. Let this be the beginning of many more opportunities to come.
“I urge you to take full advantage of this opportunity. Engage actively, learn passionately, and network with one another.”
On his part, the commandant of the FCT command hailed the initiative led by his wife.
He said the empowerment will go along way in assisting deceased officers’ wives to bounce back economically.
He said this is the second phase of the programme, adding that such initiatives will continue to ensure inclusiveness and carry everyone along.
