A Non–Governmental Organisation, Arewa Youths For Peace and Security has called on FCT Minister Sen. Bala Mohammed to rescind the decision to engage a Contract director to man the Directorate of Road Traffic Services, in the FCT.
In a protest letter to the Senate president, David Mark, signed by its Director of Petitions, Usman Khalilu, made available to Peoples Daily, the Youths’ group said the FCT minister and transport secretary in charge of the transport secretariat should exercise caution on the matter of appointing a contract director in the interest of peace in the directorate and the FCT in general.
It stated that appointing a contract director instead of looking inwards does not augur well for the staff, who have been dedicated to their duties despite the hazards they have been facing even as they generated revenue for development of the FCT.
According to the Arewa Youths For Peace and Security, “If the FCT Directorate of road transport services is allowed to choose its Chief Executive Officer from within the career officers in the directorate, the hopes and aspirations for career building amongst the officers and men of the directorate would be boosted for enhanced performance.
