FCT High Court Sentences Man to Death for Murder of Elderly Couple in Abuja

Date:

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command says it has secured the conviction of Jonathan Marcus for the murder of an 80-year-old man, Adebola Ezekiel, and his wife, Abiodun Ezekiel, at their residence in Apo Legislative Quarters, Abuja.

The Command disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday by its Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh.

According to the statement, the couple were murdered at their home in Zone D, Apo Legislative Quarters, on April 1, 2024, prompting an extensive police investigation.

The police said the investigation led to the arrest of Marcus, a former driver to the deceased, who fled to Obajana in Kogi State after the incident. He was tracked, arrested, and brought back to Abuja for prosecution.

During interrogation, the suspect confessed to entering the victims’ residence at about 11:00 p.m. on the day of the incident and killing the couple.

Investigators also established that Marcus had previously worked as the couple’s driver but was dismissed following repeated disagreements with his employers.

The suspect was arraigned before the FCT High Court, where the prosecution presented evidence linking him to the crime.

According to the police, Justice M. S. Idris held that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt and convicted Marcus for the murder of Adebola Ezekiel and Abiodun Ezekiel.

The court subsequently sentenced him to death by hanging.
