Local Education Authorities (LEAs) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have been enjoined to key into the new local education sector operational plan (LESOP) to improve education at the local level.
The Director of Administration and Finance (DAF), FCTA Education Secretariat, Mallam Umar Marafa, made the call during a one-day meeting for stakeholders consultation and validation of LESOP, at FCT level held for Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) and Abaji Area Council LEAs.
Marafa also called on stakeholders to validate and consult with each other and to come up with a document that would ensure delivery of quality education for FCT pupils at the local level.
Represented by the Director of FCT Scholarship Board, Alhaji Isah Rany, Director of Finance and Administration (DAF), urged participants to carefully study the document, as well as make input needed for the growth and development of the sector.
Also speaking, the Director, Department of Policy, Research and Statistics, in the Secretariat, Dr. Sani Mohammed Ladan, noted that the responsibilities of providing basic quality education lie on the LEAs.
Ladan observed that over the years, the department has not found it easy in the sector, due poor funding, lack of funding and bad administration.
He added that the meeting was aimed at correcting the challenge by bringing everybody together to discuss, brainstorm and to come up with a workable document.
