Despite the leadership crisis rocking the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, it’s FCT Chapter, has conducted elections that enthroned Barr. Ifeanyichukwu Nwaeze and other executive members to pilot its affairs in Abuja, the nation’s capital city.
It said that it defied Police orders and other opposing stakeholders to conduct its elections because no laws were breached.
Recall that the leadership crisis at the National level resulted into a division, following January 10th 2020 elections, which made Prof. George Obiozor a factional National President, while Engr. Chidi Ibeh, also lay claims to same position.
However, the outgoing President of the body in FCT, Odozi Nwodozi, said at the FCT chapter, elections were long overdue, but vested interests allegedly constituted a barrier to it with both conflicting court injunctions and police harassment.
Nwodozi noted that there was no cogent reasons why the Police would allow itself as a tool in the hands of disenchanted politicians to destabilise a socio-cultural body that has not breached any laws of the land.
He maintained that the elections were conducted in accordance with extant laws of the body and the Nigerian Constitution.
He added that while he will hand over peacefully to the incoming executives, there was room for reconciliation with aggrieved members of the body.
“ It will be recalled that the prelude to the elections was stormy with brotherly conflicts.
“However, with the emergence of the new helmsmen in the affairs of our august body, the excitement in the faces of our people and the quality of men sworn in as members of the in-coming Executive Committee.
“Wth Barr Ifeanyichukwu Obasi Nweze, as the new president, leading a crop of seasoned administrators and managers of human and material resources.
“It is our believe that the process of reconciliation will go on with speed and brothers will find peace with their peers on a parlance of justice and fair play,” he stated.
