The National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party, Prof Abubakar Gombe, has urged residents of Bwari Area Council to “take back their power” by electing credible leaders in Saturday’s FCT council polls.
Gombe made the call during a visit to the palace of the Awal Musa Ijakoro II, where he described local government as the closest tier of governance to the people.
He said effective grassroots leadership remains critical to service delivery and community development.
According to him, voters must assess candidates based on competence, integrity and accessibility, stressing that the future of the council lies in the hands of the electorate.
The SDP national chairman expressed confidence in the party’s chairmanship candidate, Abubakar Abdullahi, assuring residents of people-oriented governance anchored on empowerment, improved security and better public services.
Also speaking, former SDP presidential candidate, Adewole Adebayo, described grassroots governance as the foundation of national development.
He urged residents to participate peacefully in the election, warning against inducement and charging voters to remain vigilant.
The SDP flag bearer, Abdullahi, pledged inclusive leadership and transparent administration if elected.
Addressing the traditional ruler, he promised equitable development, improved infrastructure and participatory governance across the council.
In his response, the monarch called on politicians and their supporters to maintain peace, reminding residents that every vote counts and urging a credible, hitch-free election in Bwari.
