FCT: Teachers’ entitlements, welfare neglected – Council chairman

The Executive Chairman of Kuje Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Hon. Abdullahi Suleiman Sabo, has disclosed that teachers’ entitlements as well the welfare were neglected by the past administration of the area council.
Sabo, who made this disclosure while delivering his speech during the presentation of educational materials and foundation laying ceremony of Annex office building at the Local Education Authority (LEA) in Kuje on Monday.
According to the chairman, “the development and growth of any nation depends on the education of her citizens”, saying that his administration would deem it fit to provide a conducive environment as well as materials needed for the improvement of education in the Area Council.
He told the gathering that his leadership would implement some key recommendations of the Verification Committee e as it was related to 2018 employees and other pressing things at the Local Education Authority of the Area Council.
This, he said his administration had “set up a Verification Committee to verify all the verifiable at LEA, pointing out that from the committee’s Preminary report, LEA Kuje has the highest numbers of non-teaching staff in FCT if not in Nigeria’’
“Over one thousand staff were employed in 2018 without budget provision and following dues process. Some of the employees are not employable because they have nothing to offer intellectually”, he said The chairman assured the teachers that his administration would give the necessary attention to their outstanding arrears as well other entitlements, urging them to re double their efforts towards teaching as well imparting the knowledge on the children on the children at all times.
Some of the items distributed to primary and junior secondary schools by the chairman across the ten political wards include: 20,000 packets of biros, 20,000 cartons of mathematical sets, 30,000 copies of exercise books, 3,000 copies of customized semase lesson note books, 2,000 copies of dairies and 2,000 copies of school attendance registers.
Other materials are: 500 cartons of chalks, 150 Packets of pencils, A4 papers, foolscap sheets, cardboard papers and six motorcycles Bajaj for schools supervision and monitoring.
In his address, the LEA secretary in Kuje Area Council, Comrade Bulus Danladi, called on the chairman to provide Hilux vans for the effective monitoring of schools in the area, requesting the chairman also to pay some of their entitlements.
