FCT: Village chief advocates farming incentive to farmers

The village head of Kado/Life Camp under the Abuja Municipal Area Council(AMAC) Ezu Danlami Audu has advocated for soft loans and other farming incentives to enable farmers in the area go green.
The traditional ruler who made the call yesterday in an interview with our correspondent explained that such incentives from government to farmers could go a long way in promoting farming as well as motivate undergraduate youths to venture into farming instead of waiting for white collar job that is not always available in the country.
He lamented that government at all levels have decided to abandoned agriculture that used to be the mainstay of Nigeria’s economy in early 60th adding that Oil and petroleum products have over taken agriculture in the country, thereby creating more harm to citizenry and the nation.
Responding to questions on what he, as a traditional ruler is doing within his domain to encourage farming in his community said ‘we are Gbagi’s and our major occupation is farming, we are farmers. What I do is that I don’t just create awareness for the important of farming but make farming my major occupation, we here in Kado/Life Camp do a lot of farming and that is why grow different kinds of grains for local consumption’.
According to the traditional leader,” his community has the capacity to grow several grains and food not just for local consumption but also for export when given the proper incentives and environment.
Kado/Life Camp Chief further used the opportunity to call on the government to have a rethink over her agriculture policy stressing that under normal circumstances, investment in such sector could create more job opportunity as well as food security and stability than oil in the country.
To the young unemployed graduates roaming major cities in the country in search of white-collar job the traditional ruler advised’ don’t waste your time in search of greener Pasteur in any sector than agric, engage your precious time in farming, venture into agric and you will never regret you did’ agriculture is the best way to go in this country.”
