To help mitigate the rising index of humanitarian crises and displacement index due to prevailing banditry, insurgency and flooding in the country, the FCT Administration has declared commitment to tackling the menace.
This position was disclosed by FCTA Permanent Secretary, Mr. Adesola Olusade, while speaking at a fundraising event for victims of flood disaster in the country, organised by a non governmental organisation, the Angelina Ogbole Memorial Foundation, in Abuja.
In particular, FCTA, which assured on its commitment to tackling humanitarian crises in the Territory, called on everyone to support the activities of the NGO, as it is doing a lot to address humanitarian crises in the country.
Olusade, who was represented by the Director General of the FCT Emergency Management Agency, (FEMA), Alhaji Abbas Idriss, informed that displacement and humanitarian assistance were global challenges as a result of climate change and human induced factors.
He noted that the FCT was doing a lot in rendering humanitarian assistance, particularly arising from insurgency in the North East.
“ We have done a lot to assist them.Though there is no camp in the FCT in line with international based practice that no camp should be set up far away from the scene of the disaster”, he stressed.
