In what seems as a tough measure to ensure seamless and orderly traffic, the FCT Administration has banned Tipper operations during the morning and evening peak hours within the Territory.

In particular, tipper drivers will not be allowed to operate within the FCT, during the hours of 6-10 am and 3-4pm, as part of new guidelines issued through the FCT Transportation Secretariat.

A statement from the Deputy Director, Information at the Transportation Secretariat, Ifeanyi Ughamadu, which was made available to PeoplesDaily at the weekend, warned that all defaulters will be sanctioned in accordance with extant laws and regulations.

It stated that the new guidelines to govern tipper operations in the FCT, were arrived at, during a meeting of Transportation Secretariat with officials of Association of Tipper Drivers and National Union of Mine workers in FCT.

“According to the guidelines, tipper operations within the Federal Capital Territory will not be allowed during the peak hours of 6-10am and 3-4pm.

“All Tipper drivers must ensure that the items/materials being conveyed, which have tendency of dispersing or flying about must be properly covered with tarpaulin approved by the Directorate of Road Traffic Services (DRTS).

“Also, tipper drivers must be fit and proper to ply on FCT roads with evidence of a road worthiness certificate obtained from the DRTS just as Tipper trucks without proper lighting are to be prevented from plying the roads at nights , to avoid accidents”, the Statement read in part.
