The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has reiterated its resolve to encourage routine training and retraining of teachers, in order to ensure continuous improvement of the quality of education sector.
According to the Administration, teacher training is one of the pillars that support a functional and result oriented educational system, which explains why its Education and other departments and boards are placing it on the front burner in its planning and implementation strategies.
Making this assertion , FCTA Secretary for Education, Senator Isa Maina, noted that education where new teaching methods, instructional materials and even curriculum to accommodate societal changes are being developed and updated regularly.
Maina spoke at a One-Day free training of selected FCT Public School Teachers themed: ‘Improving Teacher Productivity: A Pragmatic Approach’, organised by the Consultancy Unit of Brickhall School, Kaura District, Abuja, at the weekend.
Represented by his Special Assistant, Administration and Finance, Mrs. Eunice Ugochukwu, the Secretary described the training theme as not only timely but apt as well.
“For any meaningful Impartaion of knowledge to take place our society, teachers must keep abreast with the changes and innovations taking place within the system.
“We believe that one of the surest ways of ensuring that teachers keep up with the changing trends within the teaching profession is through constant training and retraining,”he said.
He therefore admonished participants (teachers) to make best use of the opportunity, and use the knowledge acquired to improve their teaching skills.
Stressing that the development of the education sector cannot and should not be left to the government alone, Maina called on other private organizations to emulate Brickhall School in uplifting the educational status of FCT and Nigeria at large.
Earlier in her welcome address, Founder and Chairman of Brickhall school, Senator Joy Emodi, noted that teaching as a very noble profession, can be considered the most important aspect of the society.
Emodi urged teachers to always be willing to learn how to improve what they are doing, as teaching is a continuous process.
