In a bid to reduce personnel exposure to risks associated with health care waste inits medical facilities and the entire Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the Senator Bala Mohammed-led FCT Administration has concluded plans to organise training for health care providers.
The administration said health personnel risk being infected by all kinds of ailment in the course of saving lives, therefore calling for training on handling health care waste in the hospitals.
This was disclosed by the mandate secretary, FCT-Health and Human Services Secretariat (HHSS), Dr. Demola Onakomaiya, in a statement at the weekend.
According him, improper health care wastes management poses threats not only to the health care providers but even the patients and the community.
The training would empower the health officers on proper management/disposal of total health waste stream which could cause hazardssuch as needles stick injuries, accidental re-use of syringes and needles.
Other potential dangers personnel and community are: Transmission of infections or diseases like Cholera, dysentery, haparitisnA, B, C, HIV/AIDS.
Onakomaiya said the training would address such challenges posing danger to the people and environment.
