FDUP Empowers 500 women

ANon- Governmental Organisation (NGO) known as FEDUP association, for the support of the urban poor women wing in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has empowered about 500 women within the association.

The president of FEDUP Mr. James Ugah, disclosed this while signing a five years Memorandum Of Understanding (MoU) with PRIMLAKS Group and GEMS 4 in Abuja, said that the association was targeting affordable social housing for the urban poor as a tool for poverty reduction as well as Job creation in Nigeria and Africa at large.

He explained that the motive behind the MoU was to provide an avenue for collaboration and co-operation among the FEDUP PRIMALAKS Group and Employment in States (GEMS4)

He said “This partnership would allow the poor and vulnerable women in Nigeria to form wholesale groups and obtain access to working capital, so as to purchase products at discount rate for sufficient profit through Micro Finance Banks Assistance loan to poor women”.

Ugah told the gathering that the PRIMLAKS Group was the sole distributor of D. light solar lamps in Nigeria, pointing out that his association would continue to partner with the Group for the betterment of the poor.

Responding, the team leader of GEMS4, Mr Christopher Shyers expressed satisfaction with the activities of FEDUP in Nigeria. He said that FEDUP women would continue to enjoy Ukaid as well as World Bank empowerment through GENS4.

Shyers stated that GEMS4 was geared towards improving income and job opportunities within Nigeria’s wholesale as well as retail sectors especially the poorest and most vulnerable people in the society. On his part, the representative of PRIMLAKS Group, Mr Nathaniel Oke, said that his leadership would take the FEDUP association along in the scheme of things through the period of MoU.
