Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, mni, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, has clarified his recent comments regarding the revival of Nigeria’s National Carrier Project.
In a press statement issued today, Dr. Kana addressed the growing public interest following his remarks at the handover ceremony held on Monday. He explained that while he acknowledged the possibility of reviving the National Carrier Project, his words were misconstrued by some quarters.
“For the avoidance of doubt, I never said that there is a mandate to revive the botched Nigeria Air deal with Ethiopian Airlines. I received no such instruction,” Dr. Kana stated. “I was only referring to the general vision of the Administration to still consider a National Carrier Project if it is favourable to the country and under the guidance and directives of Mr. President and the Honourable Minister of Aviation.”
The clarification comes as part of the Ministry’s broader commitment to ensuring transparency and alignment with the national interest. Dr. Kana reaffirmed the Ministry’s focus on enhancing Nigeria’s aviation infrastructure and exploring new initiatives that will drive economic growth and connectivity.
On a personal note, Dr. Kana reiterated his unwavering loyalty to the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development and pledged his full dedication to advancing the Ministry’s objectives. “Together, we will ensure that the future of aviation in Nigeria is bright, innovative, and reflective of the aspirations of our great nation,” he added.
