FEMA, Rotary to collaborate on humanitarian services

The FCT Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is set to collaborate with District 9125 Rotary Club of Apo, Abuja, on rendering humanitarian services in the Territory. 

Director General of FEMA, Alhaji Abbas Idriss, made this disclosure, when he received members of the Rotary Club, who paid him a courtesy visit  at the Agency’s office in Asokoro District.

In a statement from Nkechi Isa, Head, Public Relations Unit of the Agency, yesterday, Idriss noted that these days most Nigerians lacked the culture of transmitting care to people , unlike in the past when we were our brother’s keeper.

He urged Rotary to participate in the forthcoming International Volunteer Day activities, which include: donation of blood, visit to the less privileged in  hospitals, and giving gifts to indigent persons.

Earlier, President of the Rotary Club of Apo , General Bernad Ugwueke (Rtd), said the visit was to ask FEMA to key into it’s programmes like   eradication of diseases , health care and provision of clean and safe water in schools. 

Meanwhile, in a related development, the FEMA boss has decried the lack of proper data collation in the country, resulting in food insecurity.

He opined this point, when he was conferred with an award for, “immense contribution to Food and Nutrition Security in the FCT, especially the IDP settlement” by the cadre harmonize taskforce yesterday, in  Abuja.

 He however, urged  Nigerians to imbibe the culture of maintaining a credible database in order to enhance planning. 

Earlier,  the Coordinator of the Cadre Harmonize Cell FCT, Dr. Olateju Omole assured on his organisation’s commitment to ensuring that everyone is properly educated and enlightened about food security. 

He applauded FEMA for it’s contribution to the success of food and nutrition security in the FCT especially in internally displaced persons settlements.
