The political temperature in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) is now charged as Mrs. Christiana Uduak Umana officially joined the race for the House of Representatives seat, declaring a bold push for greater women participation and stronger grassroots leadership ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Despite all odds, Umana picked up her expression of interest and nomination forms under the All Progressives Congress on Tuesday in Abuja, formally signaling her ambition to represent the Bwari/AMAC Federal Constituency.
Speaking to newsmen, Umana who said her campaign would be anchored on service delivery and continuity, pointed to years of community-focused initiatives as proof of her readiness for national office.
She said she has been doing a lot for the people of Bwari, in the areas of scholarship programmes, housing support for widows, and provision of solar-powered homes, adding that she will do more if given the opportunity.
Umana further described her candidacy as part of broader efforts to shift the political landscape by encouraging more women to step forward and compete.
“We need more women on the political platform,” she said. “This is about showing that women are ready to lead and contribute meaningfully.”
Beyond her immediate constituency, she also weighed in on development across the Federal Capital Territory, pointing to visible improvements in infrastructure and public services.
According to her, ongoing progress in roads, electricity, and urban development provides a foundation she intends to strengthen if elected.
Her declaration underscores a growing trend of aspirants positioning themselves as both community advocates and policy drivers, as competition intensifies ahead of the party primaries on May 15.
