The Federal Road Management Agency (FERMA) Zonal Coordinator for South- West 2 that comprises Ogun, Osun and Lagos states, Engineer Oladipo Fagbamila has said that the agency do not go on roof top to make unnecessary noise about what they have been doing or about to do, stressing that “we are silent achievers”

He made the assertion when he spoke with our correspondent in his office at the Ijora –Olopa area of Lagos State.

He noted that despite the nauseating situation of scarce funds and the challenges posed by those he called saboteurs that has led to insinuations by some Nigerians that the agency is not doing their job very well, Fagbamile posit that, FERMA as an agency of government given the constraints mentioned above, has performed its job creditably well.

He added that it is indeed a sad development that whenever the agency in consonance with its mandate responds to public outcry on fixing some aspects of our roads that portrays noticeable damage, certain elements in the society for some inexplicable reasons thereafter causes more damage to the repairs that had been carried out on the particular portion of the road.

He alleged that such acts could be attributed to the handiwork of street traders or armed robbers who desire to catch on the attempt of motorist who in face of such dug out holes on the road slow down their vehicles to sell their wares and rob their victims respectively.

He revealed that he is still at a loss and shock by the attitude of some Nigerians who are in the habit of destroying public utilities, wondering why any right thinking person will act against the efforts of FERMA which notices any gully or potholes and maintains it, and almost immediately and usually under the dark of the night go to excavate the materials used to effect the repairs, thereby causing more damage in the process.

He decried the activities of truck owners and their drivers whom do not comply with the rules guiding the specific weights trucks and conspire to overload their vehicles above the stipulated requirements for the usages on our roads with the devastating consequence that these roads wears out quickly than is expected He implored Nigerians to desist from defacing the roads that cost the government so much money to put in place.
