FG ban movies on Boko Haram

The Federal Government yesterday said it has banned movies showcasing Boko Haram insurgency in the Northern Nigeria.

Director General Nigeria Film and Video Censorship Board NFVCB, Ms. Patricia Bala speaking in Lagos, at an interactive forum organised by the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) on entertainment industry in Nigeria said the board will not approve any movie promoting insecurity and disunity in the country.

Bala who was represented by NFVCB Director Operations, Cornel Ayim said a lot of movies if released into the market could lead to a civil war in the country.

“Some movies are misrepresenting what is happening in the country, portraying that some ethnic and religious groups are targets of insurgents. If we allow them into the market it could lead to another civil war so we have to stop them.”

She said a movie titled ‘Boko Haram’ which flooded the market recently was not censored by the board before it was released.

Bala said the board also stopped a movie on APO 6 after the Security Service intervened. .

“ We have good relationship with security agencies to protect the unity of this country.”
