The Minister of Defence, General Aliyu Gusau (rtd) has said federal government is committed to the on-going effort at upgrading the equipment holding of the Nigerian Navy and other services including their support facilities and welfare.
Gusau gave the assurance at the commissioning ceremony of the Naval Headquarters Extension building in Abuja.
The minister also commended officers and men of the Nigerian Navy for their contributions in the fight against oil theft and other maritime crimes on the Nigerian waterways.
He noted with delight, Navy’s effort in the current fight against insurgency urging them not to rest on their oars but remain patriotic, disciplined and committed to their professional calling.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Chief of Naval Staff, (CNS) Vice Admiral Usman Jibrin said the extension was necessitated by the acute shortage of office accommodation for personnel.
He further said the new extension has offices capable of accommodating two branch Chiefs and 8 other offices for Directors and staff officers.
