The federal government has expressed its commitment to the development and establishment of Modular refineries in the country, especially those within the Niger Delta region, adding that Modular refineries would reduce unending tension created in the petroleum products, among others.
The Minister of Environment, Dr Mohammad Mahmoud who made this known at the weekend in Asaba while exchanging views with Journalists at the Asaba Airport, said that the set standards must be met before approvals are secured and Commended Etopo Modular refinery for the initiative at ensuring that the mandatory EIA exercise was carried out before taking any further steps for the takeoff of the Project
Dr Mahmoud noted that the project will create employment, enhance the economic fortunes of the people,generates revenue for government at all levels as well as reduce importation of diesel and allied refined products, adding” the proposed Modular refinery is a welcome development,it falls under the oil and Gas sector which has remained the mainstay of the Nigeria economic despite Federal government frantic efforts to reduce dependence in the sector and diversifying the economy to other sectors, particularly Agriculture, Solid Minerals and Manufacturing”.
