FG Inaugurates ₦40bn CCTV Control Centre for Third Mainland Bridge

Date:

The Federal Government has inaugurated a ₦40 billion closed-circuit television (CCTV) control centre for the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos, marking a major step toward strengthening security and safety on one of Africa’s busiest bridges.

The inauguration follows a 2025 announcement by the Minister of Works, David Umahi, who revealed that surveillance cameras had been installed along the entire stretch of the bridge. Umahi had explained that the project was designed to curb suicide attempts, enhance monitoring, and improve overall safety for road users.

The newly inaugurated CCTV control centre will provide real-time surveillance of activities on the bridge, support traffic management, and enable swift emergency response in the event of accidents or security incidents.

Officials said the facility would also aid law enforcement agencies in monitoring suspicious activities and coordinating rapid interventions when necessary.

Authorities described the project as part of the Federal Government’s broader strategy to deploy technology-driven solutions to address urban security and infrastructure management challenges, particularly on critical national assets like the Third Mainland Bridge.
