FG launches initiative to combat malnutrition

The Federal Government has launched the Nutrition 774 Initiative, a nationwide program aimed at improving nutrition outcomes in all 774 Local Government Areas across the country.

The initiative according to the Taraba State ALGON chairman, Alh. Aminu Jauro Hassan and chairman was led by the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, a collaborative effort with the Office of the Vice President, UNICEF, and ALGON.

Speaking at a two-day workshop on the Review and Finalize the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) of the N-774 Initiative in Abuja, Senator Ibrahim Hassan, Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Office of the Vice President, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to tackling malnutrition.

“This is about ensuring no child or community is left behind,” Senator Hassan said, emphasizing the importance of multi-sectoral collaboration for the initiative’s success.

The Special Assistant to the Vice President on Public Health, Uju Rochas-Anwukah, highlighted the critical role of nutrition in national development, describing it as the foundation for a healthier and more productive society.

The Nutrition 774 Initiative aims to deliver high-impact, community-focused interventions at the grassroots level, backed by strong coordination among federal, state, and local governments, development partners, civil society, and the private sector.

The initiative has received endorsement from the National Economic Council and has been positioned as a national priority in the administration’s agenda. A House Committee on Food and Nutrition has also been established at both federal and state levels to ensure sustained political commitment and legislative support.
