The Federal Government reiterated the importance of vocational education and entrepreneurial skills in reducing the high rate of unemployment and economic development.
The Permanent Secretary of the ministry of education, Arc Sonny Echono stated this during the inspection of the ongoing National Business and Technical Examination Board (NABTEB) in Abuja.
He said, “There is a need for parents to understand the changes that are happening in the work environment and the jobs for tomorrow. There are general tendencies; people just believe the conventional programs that lead to white collar jobs, that is a great mistake parents are making.
“The trend around the world today is not what you know but what you can do; that is why business and technical subjects become more important than the basic knowledge. We are not discriminating against any subject area.
‘’I also want to emphasize the need for parents to understand the dynamics and the changes that are happening in the job environment. Look at the trends around the world. It is not what you know but what you can do, and that is why business and technical subjects are actually becoming very important.”
