The federal government on Monday identified high level of indiscipline among civil servants as one of the major causes of low productivity in the country.
The Permanent Secretary, Career Management Office, Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Alhaji Mohammed Abass, who stated this at the 38th meeting of The National Council on Establishments (NCE) in Ilorin said, there was need to work harder to overcome the challenges.
Abass noted that civil service still remains a critical and indispensable mechanism for the realisation of the lofty objectives of good governance.
The Permanent Secretary told the participants that the present Federal Civil Service under the leadership of Head of Service of the Federation, Alhaji Bukar Goni Aji focuses on programmes and projects targeted at national development.
He disclosed that the service has instituted a system of Peer Review for Permanent Secretaries to underscore the imperative of continues improvement in the operations and deliverables of the MDAs.
“The process ensures that Permanent Secretaries and Heads of Department are scheduled, at interval, to review and benchmark the work for performance of their colleagues in their MDAs under the leadership of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation”.
Earlier, the Kwara State Head of Service, Alhaji Mohammed Dabarako in his remark, said the state government has being training civil servants while their salaries are paid regularly.
He added that promotion of workers are effected as at when due stressing that the state government had provided officers with free Laptop Computers, loans to buy cars and purchase of residential quarters among others.
