FG urged to support young Nigerian authors

Miss Oreva Ode Irri, a twenty one year 21 year author of a book titles ABSOLUTION has appealed to the government to as a matter of importance to be supportive to young authors in Nigeria.
The economist cum author made the appeal when she was presenting the book to the public last Sunday at the Nigerian Merit House, Maitama, Abuja.
The author informed that she ran into challenges while trying to publish the book in Nigeria, thus she had to do that outside the country.
Oreva Ode Irri therefore urged young people to improve in their readership which is a culture, which if done, according to her, they would go places.
When asked, the author said she was motivated to go into writing by her mother, whom she said assessed her very high in story-telling and readership culture, adding that she had authored other books.
Earlier in a remark, the Chairman of the occasion, Dr Shem Zagbayi Nuhu who was represented by Emmanuel Alamu, commended the author and urged her to keep the pace at which she has been going.
The chairmen called on the young people to use the time they spend in watching movies for readership in order that emulate the author. Commending Nigerians for improvement in the area of readership culture, he charged the government in the area of equipment of libraries in the nation’s public schools.
He said that libraries of most of public schools he visited were not equipped as was obtainable in other countries.
The chairman said that he has but also noticed that bookshops are very scarce today, contrary to what was in place before. He however urged the government to intervene before the condition gets out of hand.
Similarly, the father of the author, Pastor Dick Irri who confirmed that his daughter has authored other books said that government had areas of assisting authors, but regretted that the awareness creation about them was not enough. He urged the youth to cultivate the habit of reading, either hard or soft copy to enable them contribute their quota to the education sector.
