The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the private sector to unlock growth across Nigeria’s agribusiness value chain.
The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Bagudu, gave the assurance on Tuesday in Abuja at the Nigeria Agribusiness Group’s 2026 Presidential Agricultural Policy Dialogue.
Bagudu described agribusiness as a major driver of economic diversification, private sector expansion and inclusive development.
He said the Federal Government had shown clear commitment through policy support, strategic financing and partnerships aimed at modernising agriculture, livestock development, fisheries and agro-processing.
According to him, these efforts are designed to attract investors and empower producers across the value chain.
The minister also highlighted Nigeria’s Agenda 2050, describing it as a jointly developed framework involving the private sector, public institutions, state governments and civil society groups.
He explained that the agenda targets a $1tn economy by 2050, a per capita GDP of $33,000 and annual investments of at least $100bn, with the private sector expected to drive 86 per cent of the funding.
Bagudu admitted that the country was still far from meeting the targets but stressed that the administration remained focused on creating an enabling environment for investment.
He assured stakeholders that President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda would be deployed to advance Agenda 2050 through realistic policies and shared responsibility.
