Fire disaster: Masari donates N2.5m to GSM operators

Governor Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina state has donated the sum of N2.5 million to victims of a recent fire disaster that affected Idris Sambo Memorial GSM Market Funtua, Katsina state.
Presenting the donation on behalf of the governor, the Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency, Dr. Aminu Garba Waziri said the victims were compensated with 50 percent what they lost in the disaster.
He added that when the incident occurred a month back, the management of the agency dispatched its officers to make assessment of the loses and identify the victims.
Waziri disclosed that on completion of the assessment, it was discovered that five GSM operators in the market were the worst affected and they lost property worth N5 million.
He said the government decided to come in and assist them because they are providing employment to over 200 youth operating in the market.
The Executive Secretary stated that, the Masari administration was ever ready to always support initiatives aimed at providing jobs through private enterprises.
In a remark, the Chairman of the GSM Market, Alhaji Yusuf Haruna said that, the donation would afford the victims the opportunity to continue with their businesses.
He thanked the state governor for the gesture, pledging that their members would continue to support government in providing employment.
