Bala Ngilari Sworn-in As Adamawa State GovernorBy Lawrence Olaoye

Adamawa state governor, James Ngilari, has confirmed that five local government areas of the state have fallen to the control of the Boko Haram insurgents.

This is just as he called on the military to deploy more troops to the state in order to avoid a total overrun by the insurgents.

Speaking with State House correspondents after a meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja yesterday, Ngilari confirmed that insurgents have recently taken over Mubi, the second largest town in Adamawa as well as Vintim, the home town of Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh.

Asked about the situation in the state, the governor said it was dicey and required urgent intervention of the federal government.

“The security situation in Adamawa is very dicey right now and we are only trying to do our best to manage the situation. We are praying that it will improve, but it is really something to worry about,” he stated.

On the number of towns so far taken by the insurgents, Ngilari revealed that his own senatorial district of Mubi was among them, saying, “I can talk of my entire senatorial district, Mubi senatorial district. Five local governments have been overrun; and I just got a report that perhaps, the outskirts of Shanli.

“There is a semblance of movement in that area. Really, we need a lot of intervention. We need to move more troops to secure the state. Really, it is a big challenge.”

The governor expressed hope that the insurgency would soon be a thing of the past, even though he could not put a finger on when.
