Flood: ELIP lauds CBOs, philanthropists,Igbo for support to victims in Jigawa

The Exceptional Leadership and Integrity Promotion Initiative ELIP-Initiative formally known as Project Monitoring Partnership (PMP), has commended the efforts of self-help organisations, philanthropist, Igbo community and other citizens for the support and identification with victims of flood in the state.
The commendation was contained in a statement signed by the Executive Director ELIP comrade Isah Mustapha and issued to news men in Dutse.
“It is pertinent to say that, they have demonstrated a high sense of concern and support to the victims.
“Today, flooding is experienced annually in both urban and rural areas, is a phenomenon that has caused severe loss of lives and properties and rendered thousands of citizens homeless, causing disruptions in socioeconomic and environmental well-being of the victims; with negative effect on agriculture, food security and pastoralism” it said.
“The trend of flooding events indicated that, major cause of flooding are insufficient channels, silted dams, weds and typa-grass over growing river channels and river beds, illegal diversion and enrichment of water ways.
“others are lackadaisical attitude towards desiltation of Hadejia-Jamaare-Yobe Kwamadugu River basin, poop or lack of coordination among key stakeholders and climate change may be one of the major causes of floods in these areas” the statement said.
According to the statement despite the annual budget allocation of about 2billion to Hadejia-Jamaare river basin authority there is deliberate negligence by the authority on the control of Dams along the exist, and their failure to be generous for the lowland communities in the dry season.
It maintained that, the volume of the dam could be reduced prior to the volume of water increase come with rain season. Unfortunately, the authority main the saturating volume up to the rainy period, which leads to the annual bursting of the dams and river causing the careless but controllable disaster.
