Date:

One person has been swept away in a flood that wreaked havoc in Nguroje community in Sardauna local government council of Taraba State, authorities have confirmed.
The flood that occurred at the weekend following heavy rainfall, came barely a few days after a windstorm that destroyed several houses in Takum local government council of the state
Apart from the victim who was killed in the flood, another person was reported missing with several houses destroyed.
Some persons from the affected community who spoke with DAILY POST via telephone said the rain lasted many hours and not only rendered many homeless but washed away several hectares of farmlands.
Pained by the disaster, the member representing the area in the state House of Assembly, Nelson Lens, described the incident as unfortunate.”
The member who noted that this is the first of its kind in the area, said the construction of waterways in the community will go a long way to avert future occurrences.
He said the deceased has been identified as Gomma Sadiq while measures have been put in place to rescue the missing person.
Other members of the community who confirmed the incident to our reporter, pleaded with the state government and the North East Development Commission, NEDC, to extend olive branches to the victims.
At the time of filing this report, public places, including schools, worship centres, as well as houses of relatives, have begun to serve as camps for the victims.(DAILY POST)
