The Niger state government has declared that 151 bodies were recovered from the flash flood while appealing to the federal government to urgently provide more support towards the intervention to the communities and victims in Mokwa local government area of the state.

The State Deputy Governor, Yakubu Garba made the plea when he received the federal government delegation on a condolence and sympathy visit led by the Minister for Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris Malagi and Minister for Humanitarian Affairs, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda

at government house in Minna on behalf of governor Mohammed Umar Bago.

He disclosed that in the interim reports: 151 bodies recovered and buried, 318 people were displaced, 513 households and 268 houses affected.

He said the 3 communities affected were; Tiffin Maza, Anguwan hausawa of Mokwa town and Rabba, where 36 bodies were recovered, 11 persons injured, while 2 roads and 2 bridges were washed away during the flooding.

According to the deputy governor, assessment is still ongoing on the  required needs and taking stock hence the state government has approved for distribution of 6,000 bags of rice and other essential materials to cushion the effects of the disaster on the victims.”
