The Jigawa state government through the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has confirmed the death of 16 people while 3,986 others were displaced and 2,744 hecters of farmland washed away by the floods.
Speaking to newsmen, the Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) Dr Haruna Mariga said, about 10 Local Government Areas of the State were affected.
According to him, though the raining season has not yet reached its pick but the damage recorded so far was very alarming.
Dr Mairiga noted that, the state government in collaboration with National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has started distributing relief materials which included food items to the victims.
“ As we continue assessing the level of damages in collaboration with NEMA, we have also taken more measures including public enlightenment, construction of embankment to minimize the damages that might have cause the flooding in the state.
“Seven Temporary Internally Displaced Person Camp have sofar been established while some victims chose to take refuge at the residents of their brothers.”
