The Taraba State Governor, Dr Agbu Kefas has charged NYSC members posted to the State to key into agriculture to boost food production and diversify their earnings during the service year.
The Governor gave the charge at the closing ceremony of the 2023 Batch ‘B’ stream 1 Three Weeks’ Orientation course for Corps members at the NYSC Permanent orientation camp in Sibre, Ardo-Kola Local Government Area of the State.
Agbu who was represented by his Deputy, Alh. Abdullahi Aminu Alkali, noted that, agriculture is a smart way of adding value to the economy of the State, and the need for NYSC members to venture into agriculture to boost food production and security in the State and Nigeria at large.
“Let me restate my firm belief that Agriculture in all ramifications happens to be a smart way of adding value to the economy of the state. I therefore urge the management of the NYSC to partner with agro based groups and organizations in our rural communities, and funding partners to access land and other resources to enable interested Corps Members venture into agriculture to boost food production and security in the state.
“I wish to restate my administration’s commitment to Youth empowerment and development. Accordingly, the State lofty objectives, I wish to assure you that, the security and welfare of Corps members in the State will continue to be our utmost priority” Dr Agbu submitted
The Taraba State Coordinator of NYSC, Mr Anthony M. Nzoka commended the State Government for prioritizing the security and welfare of Corps members in the State.
“Their participation in para-military drills, citizenship and leadership training, lectures, social and sporting activities, as well as Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development trainings, etc are meant to strengthen and adequately prepare them for the task ahead”.
