In furtherance to attaining food security, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has concluded plans to establish special Agro-Industrial processing zone, as an-agro industrial hub in Paikon-Kore ward in Gwagwalada Area council of Abuja.
The project coordinator in charge of the project, Dr. Omole Adebisi Olateju made this disclosure in a recent interview with newsmen during his visit to the project site alongside his team, said that the visit was about facts finding to ascertain the situation of things in Paikon-Kore community.
He disclosed that the project would focus on the livestock value-chain, especially the beef among others, calling for the support of the residents of the community.
He said: ‘‘The representatives of the Islamic Government Bank that
is funding the project who came from the Southern Arabia visited the project site to see things by themselves, to know how far we have gone, to know whether the people of the community are actually in support of the project within their environment’’.
He said if the project site is erected or built, the FCT Administration would create Agro-industrial Hub which would mainly target at processing of crops and livestock product, noted that this Agro-Industrial Hub would attract the investors within and outside the country.
He added that if the Agro-Industrial processing zone is erected, it would boost the socio-economic growth of Paikon-Kore community.
He however, opined that the affected residents of the community who have the plots of land at the project site would be compensated.
According to him, the farmers or the beneficiaries at the project site would be supported financially by the government in order to carry out their businesses, adding that the beneficiaries would be trained on the new businesses.
He also disclosed that abattoir would be erected at the project site, for the sake of the people who were rearing animals, so as to have a place to slaughter their animals.
He explained that those who were engaging in milk production and local delicacies would be considered to transact their business.
Dr. Olateju, however, expressed with joy that the schools and hospitals would be built at the project site, so that the residents of the community would feel the impact of the project.
Also speaking, the Districts Head of Paikon-Kore community, His Royal Highness Ahmed Shangalo, who received the project team in his palace, said he is ready to support the FCT Administration to carry out the project in the community.
