Former Judge charges Council Chairmen on rural dev’t

A retired judge of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court of Justice, Hon. Justice Mwada Balami, has charged the chairmen of the six area councils in the FCT to rehabilitate rural roads to enable farmers to transport their agricultural produce to nearby markets during the dry season.

Speaking to newsmen at his residence in Gwagwalada, Justice Balami also urged council chairmen to provide scholarships to school children, noting that many parents and guardians are financially incapacitated and unable to sponsor their children’s education.

Additionally, the retired jurist tasked the council leadership with constructing primary healthcare centers at the grassroots level to reduce the burden on rural dwellers who currently travel long distances for medical care.

“The chairmen should have a progressive mindset toward the people who voted them into power.

“The chairmen should know that they are elected to serve the people and not to be served,” Balami stated.

He cautioned the council heads against self-aggrandizement, advising them to utilize monthly allocations and locally generated revenue transparently to provide basic amenities and deliver good governance across their respective councils.

In a related development, the Supervisory Councilor for Works in Gwagwalada Area Council, Hon. Mohammed Suleiman, has pledged his commitment to adding value to the administration of Executive Chairman Honourable Mohammed Kasim.

Speaking to journalists in Gwagwalada, Suleiman promised to work closely with the council chairman to deliver purposeful leadership and tackle pressing developmental challenges in the area.

He assured residents that he would leverage his position to contribute meaningfully to the progress of the council, promising not to disappoint the leadership or the electorate.

Suleiman called on the residents of Zuba and the broader Gwagwalada community to support the Kasim administration in its drive to advance the area council. He noted that his campaign team—comprising youth, women, and elders—had mobilized massive grassroots support to secure victory for the administration in Zuba.
