Forum urges swift appointment of new minister for humanitarian ministry

The Concerned Northern Forum (CNF) has expressed serious concerns over the continued vacancy in the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, following the suspension of its former head, Dr. Betta Edu. Dr. Edu was suspended due to ongoing investigations by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of fraud.
In a statement issued by CNF Chairman, Aliu Sanni Mohammed, the group highlighted the urgent need for a competent and dedicated leader to fill the critical role, especially as Nigeria faces economic challenges that disproportionately affect its most vulnerable citizens.
The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs plays a pivotal role in coordinating relief efforts, addressing poverty, and supporting millions of Nigerians in dire need of assistance.
CNF warned that the lack of leadership in such a crucial ministry has left many struggling without adequate support as the country grapples with rising poverty and social inequality.
“The absence of effective leadership at this time is deeply troubling. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is tasked with tackling complex social issues, but this prolonged vacancy is only worsening the plight of Nigerians,” Mohammed stated.
The CNF is calling on the President to urgently appoint a new minister with the integrity and expertise to steer the ministry forward. They argue that filling the position would restore public confidence and ensure that key humanitarian programs continue without disruption.
The Forum also emphasized the need for a leader who will serve as a strong advocate for the underprivileged, helping to address ongoing crises and provide social safety nets.
