….insists party must be on ballot

The founding National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Ralph Nwosu, has warned that the 2027 general elections may be imperilled if the party is excluded from the ballot.
Nwosu, who spoke on Wednesday at a party gathering in Abuja, maintained that the ADC has gained significant momentum through its coalition efforts and is positioning itself to unseat President Bola Tinubu in the next electoral cycle.
He disclosed that the party has witnessed a surge in interest, with several serving lawmakers, including senators from the ruling party, reportedly engaging the ADC leadership over possible defection.
According to him, the coalition driving the party has achieved remarkable progress, adding that its growing membership base underscores public readiness for political change.
“The figures we have are unprecedented. Millions of Nigerians are already indicating interest in joining the ADC, and the numbers continue to grow daily,” he said.
Nwosu, however, attributed the challenges confronting the party to what he described as entrenched impunity within Nigeria’s political system.
He insisted that despite such obstacles, the ADC remains determined to consolidate its gains.
He further took a swipe at the current administration and leadership of the National Assembly, declaring that the political relevance of President Tinubu and Senate President Godswill Akpabio was waning.
In a strong assertion, the ADC chieftain stated that no credible election could be conducted without the party’s participation, stressing that attempts to sideline it would undermine Nigeria’s democratic process.
Peoples Daily reports that the party is grappling with internal leadership disputes.
A ruling by the Federal High Court on Wednesday restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognising the faction of the ADC led by former Senate President David Mark.
The development has further deepened uncertainty within the opposition party as it prepares for the 2027 elections.
